My husband had an interesting visit from his grandfather this afternoon. Nothing unusual about that except that his grandfather passed away more than 30 years ago.
It was a beautiful sunny afternoon for a change, we have had so many grey days lately, and the sunshine really helped to brighten our moods. I am convinced that our emotional state really has an effect on our ability to connect with those on the “other side.”
Mike was working at his computer when he noticed a strong smell of pipe tobacco. No one was smoking in our apartment, and the windows were closed so he knew it wasn’t coming from outside. The smell was not unpleasant, and brought back memories of Mike’s childhood visits with his Grand-pere.
This has happened before, and when it does Mike knows that his Grand-pere has stopped by for a visit. Mike acknowledged his grandfather’s presence and started back to work. I suggested that since his grandfather had gone to the trouble of stopping by that Mike should take some time and listen to what his grandfather had to say. So Mike sat down on the couch for a chat. For some reason the connection seemed to be particularly clear today. I won’t relate what they discussed since it was private, but they were able to discuss present day family matters (including some things that Mike was not sure of and needed to confirm later!).
The connection seemed to dissolve and Grand-pere was gone. Delusional? Wishful thinking? Think what you want. No one can really understand it until you have experienced it for yourself. For Mike it was so thrilling to know that his grandfather was every bit as interested and involved in his grandchildren’s lives now as he was when he was “alive.”
